Quote from Reuters 8th of May:

"The victory over fascism, achieved at the cost of enormous sacrifices, is of lasting significance," Putin told Xi on Thursday.

"Together with our Chinese friends, we firmly stand guard over historical truth, protect the memory of the events of the war years, and counteract modern manifestations of neo-Nazism and militarism."

I mean, Monty Python could not make this up if they tried.

I'm not as resolutely pessimistic as the good Prof that Trump will never break with Putin. He's an unpredictable man with no loyalty to anyone. That said I'll believe Trump is pivoting towards Ukraine when I see it. Nothing to see so far.

That the ISR & targeting are continuing is the something to see here. Even if the '(Non-existent) Minerals Deal' leads to nothing more it will help extend the war for the AFU which is what I thought you lot wanted what with the Russian economy about to collapse and everything.

"extend the war" being the imperialist's spin for resisting his imperialism.

Unprovoked Russian aggression is what created, sustains and extends this war. Only Russia (plus sycophants) "want" this war. Everyone else says "Russia go home".

You know that's not how wars usually end don't you. Provoked or not, they're won on the battlefield by people and weapons and not by who can do the bestest wishing, no matter how hard they try. This one is lost - it's just a matter of time. I'm glad I'm not a teenage Ukrainian about to be fed into it because the likes of you can't see past your infantile morality play version of the world. Grow up or get out there.

"Ukraine very intelligently on the defensive..." Are you sure about this Professor? Nothing to see in Kursk at the moment?

Ukraine's Kursk operations are a tactical foray surely, to thin out Russian forces elsewhere.

Or are you going to parrot the ludicrous Kremlin line that the intention is to invade/take over/break up the Russia empire ?

And today ISW says "Ukrainian forces have ... exacerbating Russia’s shortage of operational reserves by launching the incursion into Kursk Oblast in August 2024 and forcing the Russian military to redeploy troops from other frontline areas to defend against the incursion"

A theme you often mention is being denied long-range fires.

But to what extent can long-range drones help? Particularly as regards hitting the rail line running down the occupied eastern regions - which I think you recently mentioned as being crucial in supplying Russia's frontline ?

ISW today says "Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russian ammunition depots, defense industry facilities, and oil and gas infrastructure have at times compromised Russia’s ability to supply frontline units and have compounded the rising costs of Russia’s war against Ukraine"
