Kyiv burning this week after being hit by a Russian air attack. This was a humiliation for Trump—but will it lead him to help Ukraine?

My position on Trump and Ukraine should be pretty well known by now. For two years now I’ve been saying that he was, if he got back to the White House, preparing to abandon Ukraine and work with Putin to end the war in Russia’s favor. The reasons involve history and money—in a nutshell Trump seems beholden to and besotted with Russia because of both. On the other hand, he despises Zelensky and Ukraine. These reasons are why paying attention to what Trump says (such as Thursday night’s comments that he was “very disappointed” with his conversation with Putin) seem pointless. Follow Trump’s actions, not his words—and all his actions have been to help Putin.
