What if the USA is about to Become an Ally of Putin?

This is a question worth asking this morning, as the news settles in that Donald Trump has named Rep Tulsi Gabbard as the next Director of National Intelligence. For those of you who dont know Gabbard, she was originally a Democratic member of the House of Representatives and a vocal Bernie Sanders supporter in 2016. She did this from what seemed a anti-war stance at the time, as she attacked Hilary Clinton for suggesting a no-fly zone over Syria.

However as time went on it became clear that Gabbard was not anti-war on principle, she was opposed to wars on dictators but quite liked wars in other instances. For example, her opposition to a no-fly-zone over Syria came not from a desire to avoid war, but from a desire to protect the regime of Bashir Assad. She has gone out of her way to argue for policies that would protect and extend the power of the Assad regime, to the point of view that the Syrian-American Council (the largest and oldest Syrian grassroots group in the USA) felt it had to denounce her for being an Assad stooge.
