US Opinion is Solid on Aiding Ukraine, But Where is the Aid?

Public opinion in favor of aiding Ukraine is quite robust on both sides of the Atlantic. If anything in Europe it is growing. I was very much struck by an editorial in the British newspaper The Observer this past weekend. It was written after the announcement of the murder of Alexei Navalny. The Observer, for those who don’t know it, is a center-left journal, a sister-publication of the more well-known (at least internationally) Guardian.
Now the Observer would not normally be the most bellicose of papers, and certainly would not have the reputation of being hyper-belligerent. And yet, in reaction to the Navalny murder, the editorial writers for the paper proposed arming Ukraine for a major new campaign in depth.
This would be a remarkable step forward in aid to Ukraine—not only providing Ukraine with the capacity to destroy vital targets “deep” inside Moscow, but also using NATO vessels to protect shipping in the Black Sea.
