Hi all,

I hope those of you who read this in the USA had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. I didn’t write anything as the last thing I wanted to do was spoil the holiday. However, as its the day after, I hope you don’t mind if I send out this piece with is about as far away from “festive” as one could imagine.

It seems that the attempts by people in Washington to whitewash their failures has reached a particularly perverse level.

Yes—the problem Ukraine is facing is that its been reluctant to sacrifice its own future.

Now the argument that is being put forward by those who are in full reputation-damage-control mode (something I’ve learned is basically a full-time preoccupation in Washington) has taken an even nastier turn. (Btw, I wrote a piece on this two weeks ago, which is a good place to start).

Having failed to arm Ukraine properly, and forced them to fight a high-casualty, battlefield-focused war, those responsible for this blame Ukraine for being nervous about feeding their young people into a meat-grinder of death.
