Hello All,
Well my media bubble has recovered its confidence a little in the last week. The week before it panicked that the race was turning against Harris and that Trump was in the lead. This week, in comparison, there was a surge of confidence about where things stand for Harris.
I don’t want to be a party-pooper, but for the same reasons I was skeptical that Trump was having much of a surge last week (he wasn’t), I also believe that Harris is not having much of one now (though there is small bits of evidence that she has gained about a point in the national polls).
Why? Well, the evidence is basically anecdotal and impressionistic, which is the same for the Trump surge last week.
Beware Your Bubble
I have, like most people, constructed (partly unintentionally-partly not) a media bubble that feeds me stories that I will more likely find interesting and even pleasant. I go to the same sites more often and instinctively seem to trust certain stories over others. In this I am absolutely typical of the average consumer of news.
The key thing with your bubble, is to know when you are being misled or even duped by stories that are telling you desperately what you want to hear. One of my favorite examples of this in this election cycle is, remarkably, the Drudge Report. For those who dont know Drudge, it is one of the largest news aggregation sites. and first became prominent in the 1990s for its strong right-wing leanings and its anti-Clinton agenda. It is probably most famous for being the first site the broke the Monica Lewinsky story.
