If you cast your mind back a few weeks ago in Trump world (a long time admittedly) you will see that Trump had involved the USA in a truly ridiculous military operation. He was expending billions and billions of dollars in weapons trying ostensibly trying to destroy the Houthi threat, and getting nowhere. Indeed, the Houthis were continuing to attack targets, including those in Israel, which Trump claimed was one of the reasons that the campaign was launched in the first place.
However, the failure of the Trump campaign against the Houthis was getting in the way of his real agenda, which was to make as many billions as possible from states in the Gulf—which he was desperate to visit as soon as possible to revel in their attention and cash. So, he tacitly admitted he lost the war against the Houthis by declaring a non-existent victory; and went on to make his money. He sent out that ridiculous tweet saying he had forced the Houthis to back down (they are still there, in control of their region, and undoubtedly rearming) and called for congratulations all around. He even lavished the Houthis with praise (I have all the details in this piece).
"You know, we hit them very hard. They had a great capacity to withstand punishment. They took tremendous punishment. You can say there’s a lot of bravery there. It was amazing what they took. But we honour their commitment and their word."
I wonder if we have just seen that in his latest move in the Russo-Ukraine War, Trump has pulled another Houthi.
